After a two-day absence, back to the Media Approval Ratings. We’re currently judging ESPN’s basketball personalities. The attorney Jay Bilas is on the docket today. He’s a former Dookie. Played on the 1986 team that lost to Louisville in the NCAA final. He’s smart. And open-minded. Jay took up for John Calipari in the Derrick Rose mess. He has come down hard on coaches, as well. So you decide.
What say you on Jay Bilas, thumbs-up or thumbs-down?

I think Jay Bilas is long and has tremendous upside
Good for the open minds reading your blog, John. I figured Bilas would be crucified. He knows his stuff, and isn’t afraid to speak his mind. That said, Steve’s comment cracked me up. Great television, that NBA Draft.
Even though Jay is a Dookie(puke), he has my vote b/c he took up for Coach Cal. So that redeems him a little.
I’ll acknowledge that Jay is the best talking head on ESPN for college hoops, but that isn’t saying too much.
On the other hand, I’ll never forget a comment he made on radio after the Dave Bliss fiasco at Baylor. Bilas said that the asst. coach who recorded the conversations with Bliss had committed career suicide and should never be hired as an asst. again for ratting out his boss. Abar Rouse refused to go along with Bliss’ shameful scheme to portray a dead kid as a drug dealer to save his own hide. I found Jay’s take pretty reprehensible.
No Bilas quote, but you get the same line from his rat coach:

Long story short, I vote no because he’s a worse person than he is a commentator.
