Kelenna Azubuike poured in 31 points last night in Golden State’s 146-105 win over the miserable Minnesota Timberwolves. The former UK star just missed his career-high of 33 against the L.A. Clippers in November of 2007.

In six games this year, Kelenna is averaging 15.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

An excerpt from Rusty Simmons game story in the San Francisco Chronicle:

(Don) Nelson has said he’s going to keep Azubuike in the starting lineup “for a while,” and the forward made sure it’ll be a long while. He had 31 points – two points off his career high – in 29 minutes.

This is awesome to hear about his success. Such a great guy who is starting to get his due. I guess Tubby’s Tarzan is starting to play like Tarzan.

Kelenna Azabuike was a mystery. He seemed on the verge of doing great things in his last year at Kentucky, but continued his pattern of ‘threat ‘n disapoint’. You could clearly see his potential, yet when the opportunities arrived to display his ability he almost always fell ‘just short’. I blamed much of it on the pressure from the problems of his ‘low integrity’ father. But, whatever the reason, I hope that he continues to show that he truly is an exceptional athlete and basketball player. Thanks for playing for my Wildcats K.A. —-Good Wishes!
