An interesting question about Wildcat Lodge

Great paragraph at the end of my Herald-Leader colleague Andy Mead’s report on UK trustees approving Wildcat Coal Lodge by a vote of 17-3.

UK president Lee Todd told board member Bill Gatton that the current Joe B. Hall Wildcat Lodge would “go into the housing inventory.”

Andy reports:

Asked by a reporter whether the building that was deemed inadequate for basketball players would be used to house other students, Todd said the current lodge would have to be evaluated until any decision was made.

I really dislike the new name. Why could they not still have the Joe B. Hall in front of it? That is just horrible that they dropped his name off of it.
What is wrong with Joe B. Hall Wildcat Coal Lodge? I sure hope they make up for it by naming a street after him.

Just because it is inadequate to house basketball players doesn’t mean it can’t house other students, John. Maybe the shower heads are only 6 feet off the ground and the tops of the doors are only 6’6″ tall. The shortest player on the roster is 6’4″ after all. No one should have to duck to enter his room or wash his hair.

    :)

Isn’t Eric Bledsoe smaller than 6-4?

    I stand corrected.

I forgot because Cal says he plays much bigger!

This reporter caught Dr. Todd big time. As a fairly recent graduate, there are lots of things on campus that are “inadequate” for the basketball team that are “suitable” for the rest of the university population. The university would never place any basketball players in a dorm without air conditioning, yet many students are required to do so (for the same price as living in the air conditioned dorms) due to on-campus space limitations.

    Signed,
    A huge UK basketball fan

I am selling these new T-Shirts “Wildcats Dig Coal” . It shows the UK Mascot shoveling coal into the Physical Plant Division Boiler room with his left paw and holding a basketball in his right paw. This is a really kool tee. Just goggle it.
