Goodman: Wall will likely be cleared before opener

Jeff Goodman over at Fox Sports reported last night that his sources say that John Wall will be cleared of any eligiblity issues before the season opener.

Meanwhile, it’s amazing how many, especially on Twitter, are trying to make this a Calipari problem.

Examples:

  • @ResJudicaca: love that wall may b ineligible 4 kentucky. loved what calipari did 4 memphis but he left 2 go 2 ky after he left memphis in trouble w/ ncaa
  • @Bruz1: Wait. John Wall might be ineligible? So Calipari may have cheated? No way! I’m shocked, he’s the cleanest coach out there. Whoa.
  • @JAlexanderH: And now ninjas say John Wall can’t play this year. I’m laughin cuz its Calipari again, but I wanted to see the ninja play…
  • @billyliucci: John Wall’s eligibility at UK in question? Imagine that from a recruit who committed to Scott Drew and John Calipari.
  • @chriswilliams2: All part of the deal you make with the devil when you hire Calipari.

And those are just a few.

Hey John, whatever happened to UCONN and their recruiting violations? I remember that they were mentioned for a day last spring, and now its like the allegations have been swept under the carpet. Wall may have to pay back some money, but at least Cal doesn’t have to cheat to get top ranked recruits.

That’s a good question about UConn. I’ll have to check on that.

So, why hasn’t anyone questioned the other players on the D-One team? Sam Montgomery, James Terrell, Tyrone Williams, Quddus Bello, Tyson Goldwire, Ryan Norris, Ryan Kelly? At least two of those signed with other schools. Any word on why they have not been questioned/challenged? One Duke blog attempted to draw a difference between Wall and Kelly because Wall might be represented by Clifton after his college days, but that is NOT the standard. If an agent provided benefits through an AAU program, the AAU benefits went to all of the AAU players. Is someone working on the NCAA’s response to the other players?

What about the other players who played on the AAU team with Wall? No mention of them, why not?

This is all just typical. When you’re on top, everyone wants to take hacks at you. The Wall thing is a no issue, and has zero to do with Cal or any other coach for that matter. All these fans from other programs are hooping and hollering about this, they would have cut off a ear to get Wall at their school.
