From the in-box, a South Carolina fan named Jason doesn’t understand why Kentucky thinks it should beat South Carolina every once in awhile:
John,
Does the Herald-Leader pay you to just write the same article every October? Except inserting 4 for 3, then 5 for 4, then 6 for 5, etc etc? Every year, you boys write that you just can’t BELIEVE that you keep losing to Carolina. (Where’s the guy that wrote that we didn’t “belong” in the SEC a few years back? Unemployed I would hope) Gee, does the fact that finishing behind us 11 of 16 years give you some clue? There is a pecking order in the SEC East–and although we’re traditionally behind UGA, UF and TENN (although not lately), we are firmly entrenched in 4th place (at least) every year–Why? because we beat you on the field, then we beat you in the standings. No fluke there–after 9 years, one would think that you KY boys could pay some respect–maybe the haughty attitude extends to your coach, then your players–and that’s one reason why we continue to own you–did Brooks really say that he doesn’t understand why we keep beating him? maybe because we have the better team?—-nahhh, that could never be the case!–He says that we’ve struggled with teams that he has beaten–really? Who? Is that why we always finish higher? Even our “evil” coach knows to give respect to the other team, even when when he beats them.
And you really think we were an “expansion” team when we entered the league in 1992? Are you that ignorant? I guess the roots of your delusional state are in your ignorance. In the 12 years before that, we had a Heisman Trophy winner, several ranked teams, including the 1984 team that reached #2 in the nation, the 1987 team that played toe-to-toe with eventual National Champion Miami on their home field, Nebraska (when they were good) on their field, and UGA? Our history may be spotty, but it has its high notes and towers over anything UK has done on the gridiron.I guess sweeping you in Basketball is harder to take now that we beat you in every other major sport, year in, year out.
Pay some respect, boys…then, you might just be able to develop enough humility to get better and have a shot at beating us for the first time since the 90’s—oh, and that 30-10 “beatdown” that gets you excited?–we were 0-11 that year, with no O-line to speak of…just a little perspective for you…
Go Cocks…look forward to John Clay’s whiny carbon copy in October of 2010…”Ten-year Losing Streak Confounding…etc etc”

It’s obvious that someone loves the (Gamecocks).
This guy is obviously a (Gamecocks)-lover. It’s one thing to be a huge fan and feel that way, it’s quite another to blast a writer at the other team’s local newspaper.
He has sat himself up for a huge plate of crow if the Cats get it done this weekend.
I understand now why they proudly call themselves the (Gamecocks).
His description of USC’s pre-SEC years aren’t that different from UK’s pre-Rich Brooks years: claiming rankings and near-wins as successes. Those years weren’t any more of a predictor of future success than our Peach Bowl year from the early 1990s.
I’m with you, John. It could have been us in that 4th spot.
I’ll still back the CATS, basketball & football - - Go Big Blue.
This dude has some nerve and should do his homework before slamming a program such as UK’s. Since he brought it up lets talk about football…when has South Carolina been so dominant that we would respect them? Oh wait, they were ACC champs in 1969! Now theres an accomplishment, lol! The guy even brings up basketball in his email…say what? UK has almost as many ncaa tourament titles (7) as the gamecocks have appearances (8). UK has 43 SEC titles. UK is the winningest men’s college basketball program in the nation. Kentucky also leads all NCAA schools in all-time winning percentage. And he wants us “boys” to pay some respect? Get real!
John,
Do your homework and ask yourself, what is it about South Carolina athletics that we should respect? Heck, if it weren’t for womens equestrian and womens track and field, the gamecocks wouldn’t have a single national championship, sad, but true.
Hey, if you go to the sec tounrament this year you may see me, I’ll be somewhere in the blue mist that covers Nashville in March when we take yet another SEC title, hope you can be there for it!
Go Blue!
Great locker room material!!!
sure, your “evil” coach has respect for other teams, he displayed it after that sarcastic comment about kentucky a few weeks ago.
