Yes, Charleston Southern does play football

Matt May at The Cats’ Pause is reporting, or tweeting, that UK’s 2010 football schedule is tentatively completed with Akron and Charleston Southern joining Western Kentucky and Louisville as the non-conference foes on the Cats calendar.

That’s right, Charleston Southern. And you may be among those (myself included) who wondered if Charleston Southern really plays football.

Turns out, it does.

Last year, the FCS school lost 52-7 to Miami of Florida in the season opener, then 38-27 to Miami of Ohio during week three. It was one of Miami of Ohio’s two wins on the season. (UK faces the Red Hawks on Sept. 5.)

The Buccaneers actually ended the season with a four-game win streak to finish 7-5. Here’s their web site.

One more thing, the Bucs open up this year at Florida.

How ironic that this story breaks shortly after you talk about UK not scheduling any big boys. I think it would make a great storyline to do a home and home series with Duke. Two basketball schools on the gridiron.
