John “I’m Every-wherrrrrreeee” John Calipari is now on the march for Papa John’s Pizza — watch out U of L — to the point where he put out a free code on his Twitter page and posted a picture of himself eating pie on Facebook.
What’s really entertaining are the comments under the Facebook picture, who seem to think that the Kentucky coach believes that Papa John’s is “real pizza,” and take issue with such an outrageous assertion.
Bill Sturgill: John, love what you’re doing to help UK basketball but you are from the northeast and you know Papa John’s is not real pizza. We need a good NY/NJ pizza place here in town. Gotta have the flop.
Angela M Kelley: Well, if Papa Johns is helping support the Foundation then I’m all for it but I have to agree that Papa Johns is not “real” pizza.
Matthew Combs: And what exactly defines “real” pizza? How many different ways can you make dough, tomato sauce, and cheese?
Rendy C. White: get a life matthew

Real pizza or not, I think everything Coach Cal is doing “really” makes him a “real” guy. I don’t consider myself a basketball fan, but he’s turning me into one. I think the upcoming season will be electric on so many levels.
Come over and read about my journey into Big Blue Nation at http://www.bluewithoutaclue.wordpress.com
What’s important about this story is the inroads Cal is making, at least publicly, with Papa John’s, a longtime supporter of da filthy cahds.
No chain pizza is “real” pizza. Go to New York City and get a slice and everything else will taste horrible from that point on.
Catlanta, UK has been serving Papa Johns pizza at Rupp and Commonwealth for sometime now. It’s not like this is a new partnership.
I am sitting in my office eating “Dominos”. My office is in the Philippines. I am from N.Y. and know that for me, Domino’s stinks. Here however, I order double cheeze with no toppings and I get by.
Pizza is what you are used to. When I lived in S.C. I thought I would open up a N.Y. style Pizza place. I was sitting in Papa John’s and having pizza with my (then) ten year old daughter. I told her my idea on opening a “real” pizza place. I said this one (Papa John’s is the best I have found in S.C. She informed me that the kids at school hated it.
Oh well. It’s all how you are raised.
But very fortunate for those of us raised in N.Y. with the best of the Best. Try Lenny’s Pizza in Howard Beach.
I wish I were there.
