Bad news from Matt May over at The Cats’ Pause, who sent a tweet saying, “UK won’t be getting new basketball uniforms, just making a few minor changes to last year’s model.”
Too bad.
I’m no Mr. Blackstone, but those souped-up horsey threads Nike slapped on last year’s Cats were as appealing as Billy G.
Yes, the script tribute to Mr. Wildcat was nice and all, but the jockey-silks design, the championships checkerboard and those skirt-like shorts were hardly fashion statements. (I’ve seen Amish women with a higher hemline.) The whole ensemble was way too busy.
Me, I like my basketball uniforms simple and classy, especially when they represent a tradition-rich program.
I like North Carolina’s consistently crisp duds, with the diamond/argyle design. I like the classic UCLA threads. I like Kansas’ old-fashioned numerals. I don’t care much for Duke, especially those black uniforms, but at least the Blue Devils don’t pull a new design out of the closet every single season.
That said, I would have prefered UK ditch last year’s design in favor of something of a little less Gillispie and a little more Calipari.
I like everything about last years uniforms except for the length of the shorts.
My thinking is this is more Nike than Billy G.
Not sure where I stand in the popular vote on this one but I really like last year’s uniforms and I’m glad to see them back.
Oh, I know, whatever Nike says goes. If the Swoosh wanted the Cats to dress in petticoats, they’d do it. Or are they already — given the length of those shorts?
Maybe I’m outnumbered on this one. May use this as an upcoming poll question.
I personally didn’t mind the uniforms at all, I will admit though that I would have loved to have seen a new design simply to erase all reminders of the Billy G experiment. I think the black traced “K” should be a permanent change and that we should bust out the black uni’s once a year on a game dubbed the “Keightly Classic”, maybe even twice a year when we play Tennessee to combat that ugly orange jacket.
John Clay, yer awful angry about those uniforms. I recon I’d have to compare them with yer design fellar, if ye dont mind a sharin yer design with us all.
Nike has a back log of retail uniforms that are unsold…thanks to Clyde…at least one more retail season /year with the current threads (w/Cal in command) would be SOP for Nike brass.

I like last years too! But, I was hoping for a “new” flashy change, using the same foundation.
Given recent Memphis uniforms, I’m not sure folks here would like things “a little more calipari” either. I don’t care what they wear, just win some games.
When I was at UK in the Sixties, the shorts were barely longer than swim trunks. Surely they allowed more freedom of movement than these “skirts.”

Who cares about basketball uniforms!!! Don’t you guys know it is football season? This is part of the culture that has led us to the two longest losing streaks in the nation. We have to compete against many football teams that have won National Championships, and could give a rat’s oss about basketball shorts, before December. Remember why the greatest coach in football history left this town?
I would have preferred new uniforms, so I’ll back Clay on this one.
And we know football season is coming. I can’t wait. I am able to focus on two sports, though.
Did anyone ask Wes what he wanted? Since he’s the one selling the program, I think he should be consulted. Is he going to be satisfied with pushing the program and guiding the high schoolers to UK if he thinks we dress like ‘clowns’? With him taking on the recruiting Cal has more time now to tend to his website and his black berry.
greg, they settled on one years ago, who national championships wearing it but Mitch and his buddy, Billy G. decided we needed new life. Of course that life died last year, according the Kentucky standards.
Pitino messed with it some but Tubby, I guess, looked at all those photos of all americans and noticed they seem to be happy wearing the tried and proven jerseys and stayed with that.
Alabama doesn’t need to change their in football, neither does LSU and they seem to attach so pretty good athletes to compete at their schools. Seems they don’t have to surrender to the new players to get them there.
Everyone has their own opinion..But I say get rid of anything related to Billy the T— Gillispie!! Cal has more class so design something to fit him. I dont like the look of it at all. I did like the black uniforms they wore last year. I think it added some style. I guess as long as it has UK on it I can accept any design. GO CATS!!
