Here’s the “tweet” from John Calipari:
Jodie called..He’s keeping his name in the draft. He’s excited and I’m excited for him. I wish I got the chance to coach him.
Update at 11:50: Here is quote from Jodie, per UK’s official release:
“I want to thank the fans and the city of Lexington. They have been great and I will always be a Kentucky Wildcat,” said Meeks. “I feel comfortable with my decision and I’m confident in my ability. My family and I talked over the weekend and decided this was the best decision.”

So, any thoughts on who UK’s leading scorer will be and who the starting five will be?
Will be curious to see if someone gave him the guarantee he said he needed, that is, a guarantee he will be selected in the first round. If not, the decision is odd.
John, I smell a Liveblog coming soon. This news raises a lot of questions about next years team. (only 12 players for 13 spots, how will the outside shooting be affected, etc.) I’m looking forward to it, and I’m sure it’ll be packed.
He could have come back and gone early in 2nd round or he could have stayed in draft and done the same. The chance he could have proven himself anymore…well was little with the amount of talent. I wish him the best of luck and hope that he excels with his dream. He brought spotlights to the University of KY when the light wasn’t so bright. BEST OF LUCK JODIE!
This is laughable i wish him the best but NO WAY he is a first round pick!!!!!
Amazingly bad decision on Meeks part….
I believe he became more comfortable with even falling to an early 2nd round pick and decided to take his chances.
Man, i wish he would change his mind and stay… I\’ll miss em, and wish em the best.
Best of wishes to Jodie! He is an amazing basketball player and a fine young man. He will be missed at UK but I look forward to following his career in the NBA. He joins a great bunch of UK players in the league.
Reminds me of Kelenna Azibuke decision to stay in draft when most everyone advised him to return to school. In this case, there is not the family issue Kelenna had, either. Sounds like “D” league for Meeks next year.
Bryan - Bitter, Table of one… Not a chance Meeks EVER sees action in the “D” League.
