john, has there been any official word from anyone at uk or from wall himself? if not i think it’s a little early to add him to the roster…based on slam magazine as your source or his aau coach….

  2. 2 greg May 19, 2009 10:32 am at 10:32 am

i think that slam magazine and an aau coach as your sources is not enough to add him to the roster….anything from uk or coach cal ? …but with that said, wow !!

Wall did confirm the story with a text message to Scout’s Evan Daniels. And Andy Katz is reporting that Wall told Frank Haith this morning that he was going to UK. He told Haith he wanted to play for Calipari.

Any recent word about the eligibility of DeMarcus Cousins (& the rest of the roster for that matter)? I spoke to someone “in the know” over the weekend, and rumor has it that Cousins will not qualify.

who will be the 4 to go….williams, stewart, harrelson and harris

  6. 6 Skip May 19, 2009 10:59 am at 10:59 am

So if Wall is actually coming, where do you see UK’s pre-season ranking? Like Coach Cal said, everyone will be playing in a new system next year.

You wrote a column a couple weeks ago about how much you’re looking forward to the season starting.

To me, the season can only disappoint because the off-season has been such a huge upswing. Every day the hype builds; Calipari helps builds it with his 50,000 Twitter followers.

The bar is set so high there is no way he can perform to it. In reality we will have Cousins, Wall, and Patterson (and Meeks) together one year and it’s a lot to expect a Final 4 from a team this green w/a new system… and after that, we’ll be rebuilding again.

john, you said to ask again if we will be a national championship team after wall commits. so what do you think

  9. 9 hampy May 19, 2009 11:24 am at 11:24 am

what will we do if meeks returns, as far as playing time. with bledsoe, wall, and meeks? it would be nice to see them all three play at the same time, but i just dont see any of those guys playing small forward.

John…when was the last time UK recruited a highlight player away from the likes of a Duke, Kansas, UNC, etc. Has it been since Pitino? I’m speaking of when the chips are on the line and no other players are available…can you remember? This is an exciting day for UK. Win or lose…I am excited that UK can compete with the big boys and not be a second tier team any longer! This is what UK fans have been asking for. It isn’t necessarily about the Championship..but it is about competing! UK fans get a bad rap for the most part.

What four players do you see leaving UK to clear the scholarship problem? Is redshirting an option?

  12. 12 John Clay May 19, 2009 11:51 am at 11:51 am

I don’t know which four. I would say that Donald Williams is the most obvious candidate. I hear the same names others are hearing as possibilites: A.J. Stewart, Josh Harrellson, etc. We should find out soon.

  13. 13 ukfmly May 19, 2009 12:06 pm at 12:06 pm

    John,
Is there the possiblitiy of one or more UK players recieving an academic scholarship based on the fact that Patrick Patterson is on schedule to graduate in three years and Jody Meeks has a good GPA. And are they any who may qualify for financial aid based on their economic backgrounds? I believe that is partially how we will resolve the scholarship issue. Just wondering

  14. 14 john ky May 19, 2009 12:09 pm at 12:09 pm

    John,

WOW! The Last off season it felt this good to be a wildcat fan was 1996, and we had just won the ncaa championship! Thanks coach Cal for putting UK back on top. John, I smell a final four, at least, how about you? That said it will all depend on how the team jells, but with Patterson and probably Meeks leading I like the chances. From some people that say the are in the know ( For what it’s worth ) I’m hearing Aj Stewart and Liggins grades are going to do them in and Williams is leaving. There are also rumors of some one or two players becoming walk-ons for one year. No names to go with that but there you go. By the way, Love to read your articles!

  15. 15 JHB4UK May 19, 2009 12:39 pm at 12:39 pm

    It is very simple:

1)Williams off scholly, would have been anyway
2)Liggins academically ineligible, off the team
3)Pilgrim academically ineligible, off the team
4)AJ Stewart transfers where he can get playing time

We are not going to be rebuilding again in 2010, have you been paying attention? Even without Wall, Meeks, Patterson and Cousins following this season, we would still have Orton, Bledsoe, Hood, Miller, and Dotson as a core around undoubtably another 3 or 4 top 20 recruits who Cal will sign. For 2010 Cal already has us leading with the best shooting guard in the country, and right there with the best point guards.

  16. 16 Adam May 19, 2009 12:40 pm at 12:40 pm

Harris isn’t going anywhere coach cal said he liked his attitude and his willingness to help the team anyway that he can…The top four I see departing are Williams and Stewart, which are probaly locks to leave. Then Harrelson and Liggins. Everyone says Liggins could flourish in this offense but don’t forget Harrelson has been impressing Coach Calipari, so it’s still up in the air. Galloway could find himself on the block too.

  17. 17 Steve May 19, 2009 12:46 pm at 12:46 pm

If Cousins does not qualify, then UK may notever see him dress out before he enters the draft?

  18. 18 ukfmly May 19, 2009 1:06 pm at 1:06 pm

Thoughts for next year. Nickname for incoming class “The Cure” Theme song to be played during introduction of players “Hard to Handle” by the Black Crows. Nickname for team “The Bruise Brothers” . Let’s start a poll. What does the rest of the BBN think? GO CATS

  19. 19 SteveNKY May 19, 2009 1:35 pm at 1:35 pm

This is, of course, also assuming Meeks is definitely coming back…

  20. 20 kyn May 19, 2009 1:47 pm at 1:47 pm

Williams, Galloway, Stewart, and Liggins, if no one is disqualified academically. Logical choices. If Meeks goes NBA, keep Liggins.

  21. 21 Everette May 19, 2009 2:13 pm at 2:13 pm

KY fans were excited about Eric Bradley coming but he will have to fight for playing time now with Wall in the line up and when the NCAA playoffs get here Wall will get 35 minutes per game and Bradley will be hard pressed to get 2 or 3 minutes unless he grows 3 inches this summer.

  22. 22 Chad May 19, 2009 2:22 pm at 2:22 pm

yeah, i’m sure these kids are going to get pumped up listening to that before the game . . . how about kanye’s new song “amazing”?

    it’s amazing

    i’m a monster, i’m a maven
i know this world is changin’
never gave in, never gave up
i’m the only thing i’m afraid of

    it’s amazing

can’t you just see the guys out there with their arms around each other in a huddle swaying back and forth to that getting pumped up?!

  23. 23 Tim May 19, 2009 3:56 pm at 3:56 pm

anybody know anything about Williams? could he not make the team? is he guaranteed a scholarship this year? same question about Pilgrim–is he guaranteed to make the team and get a free ride?——-I can see Miller and Hood paying their own way(somebody would pay it for them)being Ky. residents, and thus freeing up 2 scholarships—–THEN we are set…. lose Williams and Pilgrim, put the Ky.-born boys as walk-ons—–that’s it: 15 players, 13 on scholarship, 2 walk-ons (4 walk-ons if Pilgrim and Williams want to pay their own way)

  24. 24 ukfan May 19, 2009 7:21 pm at 7:21 pm

If I remember right one of the rumors on the internet is if UK didn’t fire our now former coach, 3 or 5 players were leaving UK. Now UK has a new coach four players have to either be walk-ons or transfer. If you add Porter, who is leaving the team for personal reasons, that makes at least 4 (or 5). So Coach Cal will have 4 or 5 players leaving, transferring, or being a walk-on next year who was on scholarship this season.

So how is three to five players possible leaving the team now NOT a big deal since it was just two months ago?

  25. 25 ukcrazy74 May 19, 2009 10:15 pm at 10:15 pm

losing 4 players to transfers is not a big deal now because we’ve got better talent coming in than what the last 2 coaches left in the cubbard.

  26. 26 Jack May 20, 2009 7:57 am at 7:57 am

ukfan, the difference is the 3 who were leaving included Meeks and Patterson. Now, the ones leaving will likely do so for self interest due to lack of future playing time. And if it gets to the point that someone has to be “cut” against his will, well, Coach Cal gets one chance to do that as a new coach.

I’m a Hoosier but please don’t hold it against me. I am DJ’ing a wedding reception for some die-hard UK fans this weekend and they would like the Men’s Basketball song that UK plays during the introduction of it’s players to be played during their intro. I’m having trouble finding any information on the name or artist. Thanks for any insight on the matter…just don’t think about it like your helping a Hoosier.

  28. 28 xggiles May 20, 2009 8:41 am at 8:41 am

    I like “Cal’s Comets” for a nickname.

  29. 29 UKFANINAZ May 20, 2009 11:30 pm at 11:30 pm

It’s “On On U of K”. It’s the fight song actually for football. You can find it on your cell phone by looking for ringtones.
