TrueHoop praises Chuck Hayes

Henry Abbott’s excellent TrueHoop blog sends some love to Chuck Hayes in a post today, calling the current Houston Rocket and ex-Cat “a high priest of defending the post.”

An excerpt:

So, sure, some rebounds are nice, but the box score misses the point of Chuck Hayes.

Somebody somewhere has these stats, I’d imagine. If you post up Hayes’ man, I’ll bet you my laptop that man’s offensive efficiency tends to be vastly lower than it is against the average defender.

The Lakers tried it for a stretch with Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. Nothing doing. Hayes is just too strong, too smart and too good getting low and using leverage to get the offensive player where he wants him.

As a born and raised Wildcat fan, and living in H-town for the past 20 plus years, I can tell you that Rocket fans love the Chuckster!
    Chuck brings it EVERY GAME!

Thanks for keeping up with former players, Chuck was one of the best players to ever wear a KY jersey. Maybe he wasn’t the best ball player, but his work ethic, attitude, and hard nose play made him one of the greats.
I just have to ask, do you Jerry, and Mark feel like you have a bulls-eye on your back all the time? I always see people bashing you three for giving your opinion on something or pointing out something a coach should or shouldn’t be doing. Here I thought that’s what your job was, silly me.
Everything you guys got blamed for on the Billy Cylde front was some fans trying to blame reporters for Billy’s lack of class and understanding of what UK Basketball is. When the wheels on the bus go rolling off, someone has to be blamed, and it couldn’t be the coach right?
As a die hard fan who not only bleeds blue, but is blue thru and thru, I appreciate reading articles that are not just puff pieces to please a foaming at the mouth mad fan base but truly covering all aspects of the University some many live and die for.
So just so you know some of us out here really think you three are class acts and cover KY very well. I live in Mt. Washington, close to Louisville, but the first paper I read is The Lexington Hearald. Keep it uo guys and to the haters, become UofL fans if you can’t act like you have some class!!

To John of Mt. Washington……… THANK YOU for saying what I have been thinking for a long time!! Not only do you, Mark and Jerry DO YOUR JOB, you do it well and with class. Unfortunately, some of our fans do not seem blessed with any more class than our previous coach possessed.

John, these comments saying you, Jerry and Mark are classy and good at your job – don’t listen to them. You are the only one that applies to.
