Alan Cutler loses Cincy gig in Clear Channel layoffs

Bad news for WLEX’s Alan Cutler. The Cincinnati Enqurier reports that the Lexington-based sportscaster was among the layoffs announced Tuesday by Clear Channel, the mammoth radio group based in San Antonio.

Alan was doing a morning show on WCKY-AM and had for the last eight years been the host of the Cincinnati Bengals radio network. He was also doing some fill-in work on the Reds network.

Clear Channel also laid off Cincinnati Enquirer sports columnist Paul Daugherty, who for the past two years had been the host of WLW’s nightly sports talk show from 6 p.m. to 9. Doc had also done the Extra Innings show after Reds’ games during the week.

Also laid off were Clear Channel bloggers, including C. Trent Rosecrans, who had worked for the Cincinnati Post.

Alan Cutler may have lost his job with Clear Channel in Cincinnati but Cincinnati lost nothing. The airwaves were clear of his “really, really, really good” and his “I know because it’s my job. You have no clue…” statements this morning. For the first time, I arrived at work without a headache in months. I called weekly to inquire as to why “The Cutman” was still on the air and when they planned on giving him his walking papers. I simply received a chuckle in reply with a “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” comment.

I’m looking forward to actually listening to the radio broadcast after the Bengals play this season. I can’t even tell you the last time I listened and I’m going to go out on a limb to say that I’m sure you can guess why I haven’t been.

Cincinnati is a better town for having known Alan Cutler. At least we have a low-water mark to rate everyone in our future.

Bring on Foxsports Radio! It has to be better even if we have to listen to callers talking about the Cubs.

I still can’t believe this guy was able to cover anything higher than little league baseball! THANK YOU clear channel!

The old adage “what goes around, comes around” is so true. On the night of the Kentucky basketball game at Memorial Coleseum Alex Cutler not only announced on TV that Billy Gillispie had been fired, but a week later when the actual firing took place he chased Billy with a microphone asking “how does it feel?”

Tell me Mr. Cutler – “HOW DOES IT FEEL”?

He ranked as one of the most pretentious idiots in a field in which being a pompous azz is all but a requirement. The stupid pauses in his sentences, the snookums kiss-butt approach to his interviews, and the latest low being chasing Billy G throught the halls — it’s truly incredible that this turd has made a living for so long in Lexington. I can’t believe we’re almost rid of him.

I don’t think we lost anything with this group gone. Cutler was aggrevating, and C.Trent & Daugherty have voice s made for the newspaper….

I always liked Alan from the time we lived in Ky 20 years ago when he looked like Groucho. However, I’m glad I won’t have to hear him say “not a good day to be a Bengals fan” anymore.

That is an absolute shame! Alan should have never been let go. We need a morning local person to give us local sports, not this nationwide crap. If I want that I’ll listen to ESPN. They better get these guys off the radio they have now, because they suck! Good luck Alan, I know you will be successful where ever you may go. Can you at least put Mo or someone on in the mornings? Please?

Cutler is an annoying nerd and I don’t understand why he has a job doing broadcasting anywhere.

“Let me finish! Let me finish!”
I will not miss that. Leave the Kentucky Jock Sniffer in Lexington where he belongs…Seriously.

The sad fact is that Alan Cutler was to charasmatic, to in your face, to damn annoying. You have to draw a fine line between enthusiasm and sanity. However I take issue with many radio personalities particularly at 700 wlw. No one can disagree with them. Even reasonable disagreements that don’t fit their biased views can’t garner no more than a maybe out of those guys. I’ll admit I have biases and I try to see them and just agree to disagree with those who have other opinions. I am certainly not that guy who knows it all and I have been wrong on many occasions. But to hear some radio show host talk they have never been wrong in life period. So in that respect Alan Cutler sure was not and is not alone. However in the field of annoying show host he certainly ranks among the top. Now to the Bengals. I think the Bengals will win about five games this year. Another dismal season and no post season for cincinnati fans in any professional sport. Andy Dalton is good but he can’t do this alone and is likely to suffer injuries against the really good teams. Year after year the Bengals fail to impress or improve. It’s much more than bad luck it’s bad ownership plane and simple. Good Day, Joe.
