Ah, recruiting craziness.
No sooner had Scout.com reported that Daniel Orton had requested to be released from his letter-of-intent to UK, his father, Larry Orton, says the report is not true.
Mr. Orton told WKYT, “”The guy made it up, like a lot of this stuff is made up.”
Daniel Orton told Larry Vaught at Kentucky Sports Report that he did not know yet if the family would ask for a release. “If it comes to that, I will be the one asking,” said Mr. Orton. “There’s no need to ask for a release until we decide if we need one.”
Meanwhile, Scout is now reporting that Memphis signee Nolan Dennis has asked for his release from Memphis and will give Kentucky a look. Dennis’ mother had said earlier that the family had an agreement with the school that if John Calipari left, Dennis could look elsewhere.
Stay tuned.

When will you be doing a recap of what you witnessed at practice today?
Jerry Tipton is writing a story which should be posted at Kentucky.com a little later. I’m writing a column, as well, which should be up later.
Looking forward to more of your insight. Thanks.
“The guy made it up” — Pretty strong words, especially considering he’s talking about Evan Daniels.
I thought Porter seemed like a nice well rounded young man that unfortunately had to shoulder a lot of criticism. He was not one of those players recruited to be a starting point guard for UK, but seemed to always give it his best effort. He also has made a mature decision and has his priorities straight. I hope he has a very successful post UK basketball career.
Is there a chance UK will honor him next season on senior night? I think he deserves some special recognition. If nothing else he helped UK with the NCAA by graduating.
With all due respect to Mr. Orton, I believe Evan Daniels reported what was told too him. Daniel probably does not want to come to UK now, due to the change in system and change in coaches and the committment of a higher ranked big man. And those are all good reasons for him to do so! But it seems like his father is trying to keep his spot at UK while at the same time they are probably out looking for a school that better fits them (Kansas). Complicating matters is the fact that Daniel will be in Kentucky this weekend for the Derby Classic. His father is trying to make sure his son is not the center of a media firestorm as well as getting negative reception from UK fans.
