A representative e-mail

R.D. sends along an e-mail which I speculate represents the feelings of many:

The Kentucky sports universe can finally stop spinning out of control. Natural order has been restored. The top two sporting interests in Kentucky are, once again, (1) UK basketball, and (2) UK basketball RECRUITING. (My apologies to UK football–but, come on, let’s be real about this.) The economy be damned–life is good again. Thank you, Coach Cal Sincerely, RD

I completely disagree. UK Football and UK Basketball are on equal ground for me.

John, thanks for posting a letter that you have received that is actually representative. To look at your paper’s published letters to the editor, you would think that the whole state is up in arms about the firing of Billy Gillispie and the hiring of John Calipari. Quite the contrary, as in this email, I haven’t talked to one person that is not incredibly excited about Coach Calipari. That your paper chooses to represent their own views instead of that of the majority of their readership is expected, but still unfortunate.

Heck with that nonsence! Kentucky football has never been more popular. Despite the poor economy I bet UK sets a new record for season ticket sales. Along with selling out our ticket allotment to play Miami(OH) in Paul Brown Stadium. The fans attending practices the past week have been the most ever, and if weather isnt awful I predict a record crowd for the Blue-White game on April 25th.

Nothing gets on my nerves more than people like that guy who wrote you who obviously are insecure and uncomfortable about UK football, probably because they are ignorant about the sport. Nothing wrong with having strong programs in basketball as well as football, there is hardly any overlap in coverage save a couple weeks in November.

I can not wait to watch the football team next season. Unfortunately I dread even seeing the first basketball game. Why? We now have a basketball coach with no ethics and no respect. He might says he don’t throw his players “under the bus” so to speak but he throws his former college and that college’s new coach there very quickly. I have no respect for him for that.

This is the Era of Kentucky Shame and if Rupp was alive this would never be tolerated at his school. Thanks Mitch for throwing away our best hope for Kentucky to have respect anytime some. Yep your fault you fired him.
