Update: Jerry Tipton talks to Joe B. Hall about the phone call. Calipari has also called Eddie Sutton.
My friend Rick Bozich over at the C-J reports that Calipari has already started reaching out to UK connections, including former coach Joe B. Hall.
Said Hall:
“That was awfully nice of him,” said Hall, who coached UK to the 1978 NCAA title.
“Coach Cal is a hot item. He’s a great coach as well as a superior recruiter. His track record speaks for itself. I think Kentucky was looking to do something dramatic in the face of all that has gone down.”

Name dropper.
The national media is not reporting this that I have seen. When will someone make this “official” and by someone I mean Cal, UK or Memphis?
This is a great start for Coach Cal.
Still haven’t heard a confirmation that he is coming… other than the Memphis news report citing “someone very close to the situation”.
i’m listening to trico & van pelt and nothing there either
I like that he did this. It shows he knows what the job ahead of him entails.
you gotta admit that cal is starting out on the right foot
These things take some time. You’ve got contracts, lawyers, HR, assistant coaches, players, recruits, families, boosters, and administration at both sides to be organized.
My read is that he’s taking a little time and handling this the right way with both the hello and goodbye portions of this decision, not just knee-jerking. That’s to everybodies benefit in the long run.
Be grateful we’re getting some glimpses of what’s happening instad of just sitting in the dark.
Nice job on the blog.
Bring back Joe B!
