The Bluegrass State Basketball blog is predicting that John Calipari will be named UK coach this week:
I have a source close to the Kentucky basketball program that thinks there will be a new coach announced this week. My source feels that an announcement will be made before Wednesday.
He said that he firmly believes Kentucky will be announcing someone from their “A List” as the next coach. He added that if he were a betting man, he would put his money on John Calipari from Memphis. He thinks that Kentucky targeted Billy Donovan as the first choice, but Donovan opted to stay at Florida.
Any thoughts on how valid these rumors are? Or are they similar to the “there is an unmarked jet flying from gainesville to lexington”?
Is this the way that we want our program run?
He has had excellent talent the last two years and has lost to a team with equal or less talent.
If there is anything worse than losing in BIG BLUE COUNTRY its coming close and not delivering.
Shady agents aside, what’s his graduation rate at Memphis and UMass?
Have no idea if this is true. This is just this blog’s prediction. I would be surprised if the hire happens that quickly. The rush may be part of the reason UK ended up with a bad hire last time.

Other sites are quoting Larry Vaught saying that there \”has been or will be a meeting very soon with Calipari\”. I can not imagine them moving that quickly unless the Baron has come back from his grave and is bringing along Joe B and Ricky P as his assistants.
Although I would like it over with, I don\’t see it happening until after the Final 4 (at the earliest).
Larry Vaught is also reporting that Calipari is going to be meeting soon with the UK brass.
In addition a source told Kentucky Sports Radio that Calipari has expressed strong interest in the UK job and wants to meet with Mitch and Todd. Also the source said many at UK are warming up to the idea of Calipari in part because there is a feeling that Rick Pitino influenced Billy Donovan again to not take the job. UK appears to want someone who wants to “dominate” the state and pay Pitino back in the process.
Take them for what they may be worth but UK could do a hell of a lot worse than getting John Calipari.
