Here’s my column from the UK-Florida game.
I still think Billy Gillispie will be back next year. But as I told someone on my Facebook page after the game, I’m less sure today than I was a week ago.
Kentucky sports and beyond.

Good article. I think there should be a change next year. Of course I was one of those that did not think Billy G was the person for the job two years ago. It will be hard for Barnhart to fire him. To do so would to admit his own failure. Wasn’t Barnhart the “search committee” two years ago?
JOHN: Dusty Mills is still laughing, and Dusty Mills will get the last laugh.
I would really hate to see UK have to “fire” a basketball coach, would not look good for the program. However, I don’t see how we can get this program back on track without a change of some kind. I find it hard to believe a head coach, given 2 of the best players in the nation, not alone the SEC, could not build a team around those 2 players and be competitive enough to be one of the top 64 teams in the nation. I feel sorry for BCG, but I really think he is in over his head and has no idea how to turn this situation around. He makes a lot of money to do one thing… win basketball games. Let the chips fall where they may Mitch!!!
I agree he needs to go. He also was not my choice, though I got behind him and tried to support him. His choices and actions have steadily eroded his position to the point it is untenable. I thought then and think now that John Pelphrey is the right man. I believe he\’ll come home if called. I hope Mr. Barnhart will open his mind to searching from within the program. Kentucky needs a firm, tough coach, which John is, rather than a bully. UK needs someone who truly understands why the tradition is great, and I submit no one knows as well as the players who have been associated with the heights of the program. He is also professional in demeanor and a very hard worker. He has the right knowledge base – and an infinitely higher winning percentage against top 25 teams than BCG. I think he can convert the team and convince them to stay and have (gasp!) FUN as players next year. PP & JM want to go out winners and want to have fun in college bball. I know they do. They\’ve been through too much to leave it like this, but MB keeping BCG or making the wrong hire will compel them, and several others, to leave.
