If you picked up a USA Today today, you might have noticed a front-page story highlighting Saturday’s UK-Florida game in Gainesville. And not in a particularly good way. Author Marlen Garcia focuses on the fact that the Cats and Gators, both perennial NCAA teams, both find themselves on the NCAA Tournament bubble.
Writes Garcia:
Not long ago, the Kentucky men’s basketball team had fans contemplating at a feverish pitch the team’s prospects of winning NCAA tournament championships.
This year, like last season, fans have to wonder if the Wildcats (19-10, 8-6 Southeastern Conference) will be left out in the cold when the 65-team field is announced March 15. The Wildcats, who won their seventh NCAA title in 1998, barely made it a year ago to extend a streak of tournament appearances to 17.
Florida (21-8, 8-6 SEC) also could be in a rut. Two years removed from a second consecutive NCAA title, the Gators are in danger of missing the tournament for the second year in a row.
