Google says Kentucky leads nation in basketball love

It’s official.

Kentucky has more interest in basketball than any other state.

Google says so.

Basketball.org used Google info to find out which state “Googles” the most with concern to basketball-relate topics. (Hat tip to TrueHoop.)

Kentucky beat out Kansas and North Carolina, according to the site:

Lets start with the term “Basketball” and see which state shows the most online love for the sport.  Turns out that Kentucky takes the crown over Kansas, North Carolina and Indiana.  Now keep in mind this is calculated by the percentage of searches within that states population.  So North Carolina may be searched more overall, but North Carolina natives don’t show quite as much love in North Carolina, as Kentucky natives do to the sport.

Be sure to check the post for more breakdowns on this subject, but here’s the Top 10:

I live in NC and I can tell you that there are more passionate and knowledgable fans in……

    KENTUCKY.

Kentucky wins most of these “polls” so when is someone going to figure that out and stop trying to put UNC, DOOOOOK, KANSASS, UCLA at the top of the fan favorite list?

I’m from Louisville, KY and support the BIG BLUE NATION and I approve of this message.

You really aren’t smart enuff to figure this out for yourself. Well, if all else fails ask Google, they’ll steer you in the right direction.

Unfortunately fan interest and googling does not equal great teams and wins. UK the last four years has been mediocre at best. It may also show the fact Kentucky has nothing else as far as sports goes to be excited about. Kentucky and Kansas have no football tradition and no proefessional sports teams. I am not sure this equals the best basketball state, a lack other sports teams to be excited about, or a lack of other things to do could be factoring into this.

North Carolina has such a great NCAAFB program though huh?

Wow! I know there are fans in every state but nothing compares to UK Basketball. We don’t have any professional teams but we don’t need one! Professional sports is all about money. College sports is all about heart! There is no comparison. Also our football team has done well in recent years and continues to grow. I grew up in Kentucky but now live in Illinois west of Chicago. There are many UK fans in Illinois. We are everywhere not just in the state of KY. The Dukies, Hosiers and NC all try to compete with our fan base but it is just not the same. Once a legend is made it cannot be unmade!

I live in Indiana, I have been to the IU a few home games with the 4 different coaches. When possible I get back to UK and catch a few games and can honestly say there is no comparison to the fans at Rupp. The Big Blue Nation Rules and you don’t need Google to prove that!!!!!!!!
