Closing the poll question concerning the SEC Football Coach of the Year.

New poll question: Should Billy Gillispie have played DeAndre Liggins on Saturday after the freshman refused to enter the UK-Kansas game on Friday night?

John – all i have seen on Liggins’ refusal to play was what little i saw in tipton’s article. Given our brief history of watching BCG, i find it hard to believe he would play him as much as he did last night if the night before went down like tipton reported it.
What am i missing? any more details? i figured coach would handle it – if it was just plain insubordination – with limited playing time not by letting him play through several first half and early second half mistakes. perhaps liggins quickly made ammends for his refusal to play or there was more to the story.
Clearly, BCG is the coach and it worked out.
I guess was happens in vegas stays in vegas?
My gut is he should not have played, but my gut also says there is more to the story.

Heard BCG’s post-game show while we were driving back from Knoxville. He said that he was disappointed that Liggins didn’t want to go back into the game in the second half against Kansas State. Attributed to a freshman mistake. He said he talked to the team about it on Saturday and they said to forget it and concentrate on beating West Virginia. BCG hinted that Liggins would do some extra running this week, but that the incident would be put in the past. There were plenty of rumors circulating Saturday that Liggins was either going to be dismissed from the team, or transfer.
I think Memphis Wildcat has pretty good instincts on this one. I suspect there’s some details we’ll never know about and the situation was handled as it was handled. It might be a bigger deal than it appears, or it might be nothing. Time will tell.
Should he have played? Sure, it’s the coach’s call…if BCG had sat him out, nobody would’ve blamed him. If he played him and plans to make him run laps or steps next week for his mistake…that’s a acceptable route as well.
It sounds like he might have a bit of freshman superstar ego, so we’ll have to see how it all plays out.
Watching th tenor and fire of WV coach I can just imagine if one of his players refused to play.
I bet he would send hinm to showers and then to the bus prior to sending him hme.
