Last week: 1-3 Season: 56-26 Against the spread: 30-28
Mississippi State at Ole Miss (Ole Miss by 18.5): It’s the Egg Bowl, so while Ole Miss is clearly the better team, the point spread appears a bit high. Look for Rebels to close out excellent season and proceed to the Cotton Bowl, however. Ole Miss 27, Mississippi State 16.
- LSU at Arkansas (LSU by 4.5): Speaking of eggs, LSU sure laid one last week. The Tigers have nothing left to play for, except its pride. That will get them over the hump against the ragged Razorbacks, who are already looking ahead to year two under Bobby Petrino. LSU 27, Arkansas 20.
- Auburn at Alabama (Alabama by 14.5): Auburn could save its season, and potentially Tommy Tuberville’s job by beating Alabama for the seventh straight time. Can’t see it happening, however. Bama is clearly the better team, and Nick Saban is clearly the more focused coach. Alabama 28, Auburn 10.
- South Carolina at Clemson (Clemson by 1): Bit surprising that Clemson is favored, though the Tigers have been playing better. Steve Spurrier claims he is going to stick with Chris Smelley at quarterback, but we’ll see. Still, think the Gamecocks defense is stout enough to pull this one out, even in Death Valley. South Carolina 17, Clemson 13.
- Georgia Tech at Georgia (Georgia by 7.5): If this game was in Atlanta, would go with Georgia Tech’s triple option to upset the Bulldogs. But the game is in Athens. And it could be the last game for both quarterback Matt Stafford and running back Knowshon Moreno. Georgia will be ready. Georgia 31, Georgia Tech 16.
- Vanderbilt at Wake Forest (Wake Forest by 4): Having clinched bowl eligibility the week before in win over Kentucky, Vandy almost looked as if had packed in during loss to Tennessee. Will be interesting to see if the ‘Dores reclaim some spunk for the trip to Winston-Salem. Wake has been a late-season disappointment, but could get back on track here. Wake Forest 19, Vanderbilt 14.
- Florida at Florida State (Florida by 16): The Gators do have to travel to Tallahassee. Makes no different. At this point in time, Urban Meyer’s team is playing better than any team in the nation. No reason for that to end now. Florida 42, Florida State 14.
- Kentucky at Tennessee (Tennessee by 4): Were the circumstances different, would give UK a good shot of breaking that 23-game losing streak to the Vols. But it’s Phil Fulmer Appreciation Day. And the Vols turned up flat the week after the school announced Fulmer’s firing. That won’t happen this time. Tennessee 21, Kentucky 13.
