UK-Georgia post-game notes

Notes from Kentucky’s 42-38 loss to Georgia:

  • The 38 points is the most scored by UK, in a non-overtime game, that turned out to be a lost. The previous high was 37 in last year’s 45-37 loss to Florida.
  • UK rushed for 226 yards, most in an SEC game since the Cats rushed for 228 yards against Vanderbilt in 2002.
  • It’s the most rushing yards in a loss since the 1995 Cats gained 301 yards on the ground but still lost 42-32 at Mississippi State.
  • UK cornerback Trevard Lindley played just a few plays in the second half because of patella tendinitis, said head coach Rich Brooks.
  • Kentucky was outgained 520-331. That’s a difference of 189 yards. That’s the most the Cats have been outgained since that 49-0 loss to LSU in 2006. The Tigers outgained UK 546-227, a difference of 319, that night.
  • The 520 yards is the most UK has allowed all season. Florida owned the previous high with 446 yards.
  • Georgia quarterback Matt Stafford completed 17 of 27 passes for 376 yards. That’s 13.93 yards per attempt. That’s the highest average against a UK defense since Tennessee averaged 14.48 in 2000. Those were the Phil Fulmer glory days.
  • Kentucky rushed for five touchdowns, highest total in an SEC game since 2005 at Vanderbilt.
  • The lead changed hands six times in the second half, including four times in the fourth quarter.

I have one simple question. What in the heck have we been thinking keeping Hartline at quarterback? Surely it’s obvious now who gives us the best chance to move the ball…and win…

I think we have a pretty good shot to close out the season with two victories and a bowl bid. Go Cats!

The problem is, moving the football, in and of itself, does not win football games.

Cobb played a good game, and he earned the start next game, BUT he did throw that interception. If I remember correctly, he also fumbled twice (once on 4th down). He also took several sacks when he should have thrown it away.

Overall, he still played well … but does Hartline throw that interception?

Hartline doesn’t throw that interception. Instead, Hartline can’t grip the ball and it flops to the ground only to be picked up and returned for a touchdown. I think Brooks needs to go out and buy Hartline the nicest clipboard to hold for the rest of the season and then a set of luggage for when he transfers this summer.
