From Commonwealth Stadium:
- Halftime: Kentucky 17, South Carolina 14
- 2Q-UK up 17-14 at 0:04: Tydlacka kicks a career-long 51-yard field goal to five UK the lead. That’s one yard shy of school record.
- 2Q-Tied at 14 at 6:23: UK finally takes advantage of Carolina turnover. The McKinley fumble, the Gamecocks’ fourth turnover, gives Cats ball at 48. A seven-play drive ends with 2-yard Tony Dixon touchdown run. Hartline is now 12-of-18 for 88 yards. Derrick Locke has 28 yards rushing on eight carries. Dicky Lyons has a sprained right knee and has been taken to the lockerroom. Micah Johnson may have aggravated his sprained ankle, as well.
- 2Q-SC up 14-7 at 13:36: Carolina blocks a 21-yard field goal by Tydlacka and Munnerlyn scooped up kick and returned it 81 yards for touchdown. That’s the second blocked field goal UK has suffered this year. Remember, Middle Tennessee blocked a field goal. There’s a breakdown somewhere. Carolina was all over Tydlacka before got kick off. Jordin Lindsey blocked it.
- End of first quarter-Tied 7-7: Kentucky ended the quarter on the SC 11-yard line. Terrible first quarter for Smelley who turned it over three times, two interceptions and a fumble. He completed just four of 15 passes for 53 yards, though one was for a score. The prediction here is that we’ll see a quarterback change for the Gamecocks sooner rather than later. Mike Hartline was 7-of-11 for 44 yards for the Cats.
- 1Q-Tied 7-7 at 4:13: Munnerlyn returns kickoff 84 yards to the UK 16. One play later, Smelley hits McKinley for 16-yard touchdown. Just 20 seconds between the two scores. Robbie McAtee on coverage.
- 1Q-UK 7-0 at 4:33: Trevard Lindley takes ball away from Kenny McKinley and returns it 28 yards for touchdown off interception for early Cat lead. Said turnovers would be huge.
- 1Q-No score at 7:07: Ryan Succup misses a 50-ayrd field goal after Gamecocks’ drive stalls. Succup came in 5-of-7 from outside 40 yards, so it was makable kick. Chris Smelley started strong, but the USC quarterback then made two poor throws, and the drive stopped. Smelley is 2-of-5 for 24 yards.
- 1Q-No score at 11:24: UK moves ball out to 43 but late hit by offensive lineman Josh Beets sends ball back to 28. Cats stall there and punt. Randall Cobb took a snap at quarterback, and carried for nine yards. He also caught a pass for a two-yard loss. First snap at qb, and first catch, since the Norfolk State game on Nov. 6. As I type this, UK men’s basketball team is receiving a huge ovation as they are introduced in the end zone.

Derrick Locke talked the talk this week. Looks like Brooks is giving him a chance to walk the walk with all these early touches.
Touchdown KENTUCKY! Way to go D (again).
TD! I think this is Trevard Lindley’s farewell tour.
Lyons was on the ground on that interception Hartline just threw. Whether Lyons was pushed or slipped, Hartline still threw into triple coverage.
John said turnovers would play a factor, but so are penalties. We’re shooting ourselves in the feet. And as I type this, picked off by Moore!
Uh oh, Smelley. Three turnovers, baby. Will he be looking over his shoulder resulting in tentative play the rest of the game knowing Darth Visor is roaming the South Carolina sideline?
Dicky Lyons is out probably. Not a good sign, especially down 14-7. Pretty sure he’s the only receiver other than Cobb that they’d throw a deep route over the middle to.
Another TD NOT surrendered by the defense…and Lyons (our only proven WR is hobbled). Time to see if this UK team will dig deep.
0-6 for third down conversions. Haven’t thrown a pass past the 1st down marker on third down yet.
Another turnover! Hopefully our Offense steps up to help out our D!
Dave Baker just said Smelley might be on a short string (like I mentioned at 1:10 p.m.). Fumble! (sound familiar) UK football.
Touchdown KENTUCKY! I think Hartline may be getting into a groove.
Now 14-14. Why do I feel like we might need defensive stops the rest of the way along with another Carolina TO in their end of the field leading to a UK field goal for UK to claim victory (17-14)?
Thanks for the third down drop, Davis! Let’s get a score heading into the half.
Anyone else nervous about this 50 yrd field goal?
There’s that score heading into the half. And y’all didn’t think it would happen, now did ya?
after succup’s miss why was the ball spotted at the 30 yd line instead of the 40 (where he missed from)? I thought college ball had the same rule as the nfl and that it was spotted at the point of the attempt, not the line of scrimage
college rule is that it’s returned to line of scrimmage, unless inside the 20
