SEC picks for Sept. 20

SEC picks this week against the spread:

Last week: 7-0
Overall: 22-6
Against spread: 5-2

  • Aubcheer
LSU at Auburn (LSU by 2.5):
Little surprised that LSU is a favorite on Auburn's home field, but guess that is based on just how bad the Auburn offense has been the first two weeks. New offensive boss Tony Franklin is not the most popular man on the Plains right now. Still, that Auburn defense is rock solid. And I'm not sold on either of LSU's quarterbacks. Auburn 20, LSU 14.
  • Vandy at Ole Miss (Ole Miss by 7): Vandy has been the surprise early team in the league, off to a 3-0 start. Ole Miss has played well, as well. The difference here is Oxford. Not sure the Commodores are ready to steal one on the road. Ole Miss 31, Vanderbilt 20.
  • Alabama at Arkansas (Alabama by 9): Arkansas eeked out two early wins over lesser foes, then had its game with Texas postponed by Ike last week. Alabama played better against Western Kentucky after a sleep-walking exhibition against Tulane. The Tide should be fully awake today. Alabama 34, Arkansas 14.
  • Wofford at South Carolina (off the board): Carolina's offense needs to get it cranked up over this FCS foe. Either that or Steve Spurrier will eat his visor. South Carolina 45, Wofford 10.
  • Mississippi State at Georgia Tech (Georgia Tech by 7.5): Tech plays that old triple-option offense under new coach Paul Johnson. That makes the Ramblin' Wreck a hard team to prepare to play. Georgia Tech 24, Mississippi State 14.
  • Florida at Tennessee (Florida by 7.5): The Gators ran it up last year on the way to a 39-point win in Gainesville. It won't be that bad this time in Knoxville, but it won't be good for the Vols either. Florida 21, Tennessee 7.
  • Georgia at Arizona State (Georgia by 7): The Bulldogs travel to the West Coast for a rare cross-country game. Arizona State is hurting after a bad loss last week to UNLV. The Sun Devils will be ready to play. But the guess here is that Dennis Erickson's team won't be ready for all that Georgia talent. Georgia 35, Arizona State 17.
