Morgan Newton's commitment to UK on Thursday prompted my whirring mind to contemplate a quarterback comparison between Cats and Cards heading into next week's game week.
Question No. 5: Which school has had the better string of quarterbacks of late?
Is it Louisville with Chris Redman to Dave Ragone to Stefan LeFors to Brian Brohm?
Or is Kentucky with Tim Couch to Dusty Bonner to Jared Lorenzen to Shane Boyd to Andre Woodson?
Your thoughts?

I’m not sure what the W vs. L comparison is by total, but I would guess its very close with UofL by a nose.
Some of the success criteria for your comparison could be W vs. L, Bowl Victories, years and/or status in NFL, Super Bowl Victories.
Maybe add in if UK isn’t leading at half-time other criteria of ‘personality’ and/or accomplishments off the field.
Go CATS!
Louisville:
-Redman (NFL bust/selling insurance a year ago/keeping Matt Ryan’s seat warm)
-Ragone (NFL bust/hosting a radio morning show)
-LeFors (NFL bust/second string QB in the CFL)
-Brohm (jury is out but he hasn’t shown much promise yet in Green Bay).
Kentucky:
-Couch (first pick of the 1999 draft/now out of football)
-Bonner (Horsemen QB/QB coach at LexCath)
-Lorenzen (Super Bowl ring, NFL backup)
-Boyd (NFL backup)
-Woodson (jury is out but doesn’t look promising as of yet)
The answer is neither has had a good string of quarterbacks. But, unfortunately, if you’re defined by wins and losses, the edge goes to Louisville.
Uh Rob, Couch is the biggest bust of them all.
Not sure how a 3rd RD (Ragone) and 4th RD (Lafors) pick in the nfl draft constitutes a “bust”.
Add up how many NFL roster years are represented by each. The group that made NFL rosters the most should be declared the winner.
I was thinking more of their college careers, but the criteria is arbitrary.
Gotta be Louisville. Couch, Lorenzen, and Woodson really the only QB’s of note in that run for UK. All QB’s on that list for Louisville did something of note in one way or another. Louisville, not by a landslide, but obviously the best run over that stretch.
I’m a Louisville guy but special props to Jared. One of the better backup QB’s I’ve seen this preseason…with a lot of help from Jacob Tamme…I hope they both make it with the Colts. They deserve it.
Walter,
You can’t contradict yourself by calling Couch (1st overall pick) a bust while saying that Ragone and LeFors are not busts based on what round they were drafted in.
Rob,
You completely missed the point. How is a 3rd or 4th round draft choice considered a bust? Guys picked in those rounds are selected with the idea that perhaps at a certain time down the road, they may be able to contribute. There is no guarantee that a mid-round pick will even make the squad.
Take your blue and white colored glasses off and go back and re-read your first post. You contradicted yourself by referring to Ragone and Lafors as busts, but said nothing along those lines about Couch. Couch was the #1 pick overall in ’99 and he never panned out. He was supposed to be the savior (unfairly or not) of the Browns and didn’t get the job done. Tim Couch is the definition of a bust.
Ok Im A UK guy and I love woodson the kid was just ice in the veins but im gonna have to give the nod to a UofL guy and not the one youd think…Lafors!! call him an over achiever. Everyone said Brohm was all world and that Lafors (during Brohm’s freshman year) was just keeping it warm for the 1st few games then if Bobby P had any sense Brohm would take over. All Lefors did was go in there (without the Harry Douglas’ and the Mario Urutias’ and the Gary Barridges’ and the Michael Bushs’) and WIN WIN WIN. he wasnt a BCS QB but he damn sure set the stage for Brohm and the cardinals to have they season he did in 06 and he did it with people calling for the job to be given to Brohm just because of his name, the whole time he was starting
I agree with the majority…slight edge to U of L. Just base it on W’s and L’s in college, and the Cards take this one. But at the same time, I don’t believe any of them could have came to UK and replaced their counterpart and had any more success than our Cats QBs did.
