Webb stays perfect

Webbbrandon
Brandon Webb’s remarkable start continued last night in the Arizona desert as the Diamondbacks whipped Philadelphia 8-3.

The Ashland native and former UK star pitched a complete game, giving up just six hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out four. After giving up three two earned runs, Webb’s ERA is 2.41.

He is the sixth player in the last 50 years to win his first eight starts. The last was John Garland, who started 8-0 for the Chicago White Sox in 2005. The Sox won the World Series that year, by the way.

Webb was 18-10 last year with a 3.01 ERA. He won the Cy Young Award in 2006 after going 16-8 with a 3.10 ERA in 2006. The 29-year-old boasts a career ERA of 3.18.
