More competition for Harrellson

With college basketball’s spring signing period starting Wednesday, the competition is apparently heating up for Josh Harrellson, the 6-foot-9 forward who is reportedly visiting UK this weekend.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Ohio State has stepped up its recruitment of Harrellson, a 275-pound freshman at Southwest Illinois College who signed with Western Illinois but was granted a release.

UK, Ohio State and Indiana are among the schools courting Harrellson, who averaged 14 points and eight rebounds last season. Saint Louis, Missouri, Illinois, Purdue, Iowa and Iowa State have also been mentioned.

With UK set to sign Kevin Galloway, and recruiting Harrellson and Juan Pattillo, A Sea of Blue is asking if recruiting jucos is a recipe for success.

I don’t see a problem recruiting jucos, as long as they are talented enough to truly belong at the Div. 1 level UK aspires to. When Pitino took over the program back in the 90′s, UK had some very talented juco players come in and contribute significantly. Does anyone remember Dale Brown? Started at guard for UK’s 1994 NCAA Final Four squad?
