Mike Davis has a quite a history with Kentucky.
He played at Alabama. As head
coach at Indiana, he said he
"hated Kentucky." He
then had his famous blow-up at an official during a game against the Cats at
Freedom Hall. Now, as head coach at UAB, Davis
returns to Freedom Hall to face Kentucky
on Saturday.
No big deal, or so he tells the Birmingham
News.
"To me it’s just another opponent," Davis said. "That’s the mindset we’re trying to get to. It’s hard because the
emphasis is on certain games. Just look at today, we have more (media) here
than we’ve had all year. We just try to get the guys to focus on basketball
because all we can do is carry out the game plan no matter who we play."
As coach at Indiana, Davis was 1-5 against Kentucky.

Davis is a good guy who was in a bad situation. An African-American coach at a basketball-crazy institution who couldn’t please the fan base despite consistently delivering respectable teams with respectable records. Finally he had enough and walked away – on what appeared to be on his own terms – and has now landed in a more comfortable and accepting situation.
Sound familiar????
I have a bridge to sell to anyone who buys this from him for one minute.
Yeah, right, and the Grand Canyon is just another hole in the ground.
“To me it’s just another opponent. That’s the mindset we’re trying to get to.” DAVIS
The mindset has been working since the Tubby Era. This mindset will continue through the Billy Gee Whiz Era. UAB as a whole is the size of EKU and KSU. Kudos for the Blazers.
