The recent debate about UK’s recruiting prompted this unsolicited e-mail from Orestes Meeks, father of UK signee Jodie Meeks:
"I agree that Kentucky will have to have a better season
than they had last year to get the notice from recruits and the media.
That being said, I hope it works out for Werner. He seems like
a fine player, but you know as well as I do, sitting and playing spot minutes
can equate to someone coming in the following year and making you do it
again (smile). It is so easy to jump on Florida’s bandwagon. You
probably know Coach Donovan, and I got a chance to speak with him quite
a bit during the recruiting process. My son chose Kentucky not only
for what they have done, but what they will do in the future. As
sure as the sky will be blue (no pun intended), Kentucky will play for
a final four. It looks like Coach Donovan will be strong for some
time, but he will never sneak up on anyone any more. I knew they
would be good when they beat Syracuse last year. I was so proud of
the coach and the team, I still am. But I think I will stay on the
Kentucky bandwagon. I have a great feeling that the report of
Tubby Smith’s and The Cats demise has been greatly exaggerated."
