Not long ago SEC basketball coaches turned up their noses at the idea of a nationally-televised SEC-Big 12 challenge. They cited scheduling conflicts, missed classes, possible loss of a home date. Now, all that has changed.
At the SEC Spring Meetings in Destin, the hoops coaches say they crave increased television exposure. Coming off a season in which two league teams reached the Final Four and South Carolina won the NIT, the SEC would love to capitalize on its new-found success by shining it around the country.
ESPN is reportedly talking to the league about moving some games to Thursday, or even trying out a Sunday night package. Those Sunday night games would go head-to-head with the ACC’s Fox Sports package. It might also go head-to-head with NBC’s new NFL package.
Maybe, finally, the SEC is getting it. Exposure is good. Perhaps more people (and recruits) will see that the league is not all about football. Ok, so it’s quite a bit about football, but not all about football. Nor is SEC basketball all about Kentucky, as Florida and LSU proved last year. The more that see that, the better, too.

Can someone finally admit that Jefferson Pilot is comparatively low-quality? ESPN games are in HD. FoxSports games look good on TV. Jefferson Pilot’s camera shots look grainy, dirty, and terrible compared to those two. The SEC deserves better exposure.
